SECTION 1: FUNCTIONAL ARCHITECTURE & CIRCUIT ROLE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Circuit Position & Pin Configuration (TDFN-2x2-6L):

   - Schematic Designation: Labeled as U_BL, U_LIGHT, or U_LEDBST on Xiaomi/Oppo/Vivo schematics.

   - Pinout Definition:

     * Pin 1 (SW): Switch node, connects to the boost inductor (4.7µH to 10µH) and the anode of an ultra-fast external Schottky barrier diode.

     * Pin 2 (GND): Ground connection, internally bonded to the bottom thermal exposed paddle.

     * Pin 3 (FB): Current feedback sense pin (internal 200mV precision reference) connecting to the cathode return line of the LCD backlight string (LED_K) through a current-setting resistor.

     * Pin 4 (CTRL / EN): Enable and PWM brightness dimming input pin receiving 1.8V logic from the Application Processor (CPU) or Display PMIC.

     * Pin 5 (NC / OVP): Overvoltage protection sense line (caps open-load output voltage at ~38V).

     * Pin 6 (VIN): Battery input supply (3.0V to 20V rating, typically 3.7V–4.2V VBAT) decoupled by a 1µF–4.7µF ceramic capacitor.

     * Exposed Center Pad (Thermal Paddle): Soldered directly to motherboard ground plane for thermal relief.

2. Operating Ratings & Efficiency:

   - Input Operating Voltage: 3.0V to 20V DC.

   - Internal Power Switch: Integrated 40V, 1.1A N-channel power MOSFET.

   - Boost Switching Frequency: Fixed 1.25 MHz oscillator, reducing external inductor and capacitor physical footprints.

   - High Efficiency: Up to 90% peak efficiency, assisted by the ultra-low 200mV feedback voltage on Pin 3 (FB) to minimize power dissipation.

   - Dimming Control: Wide PWM dimming frequency range from 5 kHz to 100 kHz with an internal 500kΩ pull-down resistor on CTRL/EN.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SECTION 2: BOARD-LEVEL FAULT SYMPTOMS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Black Screen with Active Phone (No Backlight / Graphics Visible Under Torch):

   - The phone boots completely, vibrates on power-up, receives calls, and LCD graphics/icons are faintly visible when shining an external light directly at the panel, but the backlight remains dead.

   - Root Causes: Punctured internal 40V switch FET inside SGM3726, open boost coil, burned Schottky diode, or fractured solder joint beneath Pin 1 (SW).

2. Burnt / Smoking Boost Inductor:

   - If the internal power FET of 3726 breaks down and shorts Pin 1 (SW) directly to ground, continuous DC battery current rushes through the boost coil without switching, causing severe inductor overheating, smoking, and burning.

3. Complete Board Short / VBAT Tripping DC Power Supply:

   - Liquid damage or high-voltage transient spikes puncture the input stage between Pin 6 (VIN) and ground.

   - Result: 0.000V dead short on VBAT. DC power supply immediately trips its current limit (1.5A–2.5A) before pressing the power button, with intense localized heat centered on the 3726 IC.

4. Dim Display / Backlight Flickering / Fixed Brightness:

   - The screen illumination remains permanently dim or flashes irregularly; moving the brightness slider in Android settings fails to adjust luminance.

   - Root Causes: Defective internal 200mV feedback differential amplifier on Pin 3 (FB) or corrupted PWM line on Pin 4 (CTRL).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SECTION 3: STEP-BY-STEP MULTIMETER TESTING & DIAGNOSTICS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Cold Testing (Diode Mode Drop Readings in mV):

   - Multimeter in Diode Mode: Place RED probe on PCB ground shield (GND); use BLACK probe to check points around 3726:

     * Pin 6 (VIN / Input Decoupling Capacitor): ~350 mV to 480 mV (0.000V indicates blown IC or shorted bypass capacitor).

     * Pin 1 (SW Node / Inductor Terminal): ~400 mV to 520 mV.

     * Pin 3 (FB / Cathode Return Line): ~550 mV to 700 mV.

     * Pin 4 (CTRL / EN Line): ~500 mV to 650 mV.

     * Display Connector LED+ (Anode after Schottky Diode): ~500 mV to 650 mV. If this reads 0.000V, check the output filtering capacitor and Schottky diode first.

2. Hot Testing (Live Voltage Under Display Load):

   - Connect the phone to DC power supply and power on with a functional LCD connected:

     * Measure Pin 6 (VIN): Must show steady 3.8V to 4.2V VBAT.

     * Measure Pin 4 (CTRL / EN): Must read ~1.8V DC when screen is turned on (0.0V when asleep).

     * Measure Output Anode (Cathode of Schottky Diode / LED_A line):

       - Screen Asleep: Reads raw battery voltage (~3.8V).

       - Screen Awake: Must boost up to +18V to +28V DC!

     * Diagnostic Rule: If VIN is 4.0V, EN is 1.8V, but the anode line remains stuck at 4.0V (no boost action), SGM3726, the boost coil, or the Schottky diode has failed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
