--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SECTION 1: FUNCTIONAL ARCHITECTURE & CIRCUIT ROLE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Circuit Topology & Signal Routing (WLCSP-48):

   - Schematic Designation: Labeled as U_SPK_AMP, U_AUDIO_PA, or TFA9894 on Huawei and Oppo schematics.

   - Core Power & Signal Interconnects:

     * VBAT Power Input: Connects to raw battery rail (3.4V to 4.4V DC) decoupled by low-ESR ceramic capacitors.

     * VDD / VDDIO: Digital and core logic supply (typically 1.8V DC) sourced from the main PMIC.

     * VBOOST / BST_OUT: Boost output rail connecting to an external boost storage capacitor; voltage dynamically scales from ~4.0V up to +10.0V DC during loud audio playback.

     * SW (Switch Node): High-speed boost inductor terminal switching at high frequency to step up battery voltage.

     * SPK_OUT_P & SPK_OUT_N: Differential bridge-tied load (BTL) outputs driving the positive and negative terminals of the bottom ringer/loudspeaker module.

     * I2S / TDM Interface: Digital audio communication bus (BCLK, WS/WCLK, DIN, DOUT) streaming high-resolution audio samples directly from the Application Processor (AP) or HiSilicon Kirin DSP.

     * I2C Bus (SDA / SCL): Control interface used by the Android audio driver to configure equalization, limiter thresholds, and read diagnostic feedback.

2. SmartPA Acoustic Protection Architecture:

   - Real-Time Current & Voltage Sensing: Senses continuous voltage and current flowing into the speaker coil to calculate instantaneous voice-coil temperature and mechanical excursion.

   - Thermal Protection: Throttles gain if voice-coil heating approaches the speaker thermal limit, preventing permanent coil meltdown.

   - Excursion Limiter: Prevents the speaker diaphragm from exceeding its maximum physical stroke (Xmax), eliminating rattle and mechanical tearing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SECTION 2: BOARD-LEVEL FAULT SYMPTOMS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Complete Loss of Loudspeaker Sound (No Ringtone, Media, or Speakerphone):

   - Ear-speaker (receiver during private calls) may work normally via the primary audio codec, but hands-free speakerphone, YouTube/video playback, and ringtones produce zero sound.

   - Root Causes: Blown internal Class-D output stage in 894C, open-circuit boost inductor, or damaged solder balls under the 48-bump BGA grid.

2. Heavily Distorted, Crackling, or Robotic Audio:

   - Sound plays through the bottom speaker but is faint, buzzing, rattling, or cuts out intermittently at medium-to-high volume levels.

   - Root Causes: Failed adaptive boost converter failing to generate higher rail voltage under load, or damaged differential output FETs on SPK_P/SPK_N.

3. Microphone Failure / Muted Outgoing Sound in Calls:

   - On Huawei Mate 10 and P10 series, the lower microphone feedback and acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) loop is referenced through the SmartPA circuit; failure of the 894C chip often causes outgoing microphone audio to fail simultaneously.

4. Motherboard Heating Around Lower Shield & High Standby Drain:

   - High-voltage boost FET puncture creates a direct leak between VBAT and Ground, drawing continuous 100mA–400mA current in sleep mode, warming the board and rapidly depleting the battery.

5. Phone Freezes or System UI Hangs When Playing Ringtones:

   - Triggering a sound or receiving a call causes the phone screen to freeze for 3 to 5 seconds due to I2C/I2S bus communication timeout between the Kirin CPU and 894C.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SECTION 3: STEP-BY-STEP MULTIMETER TESTING & DIAGNOSTICS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Cold Testing (Diode Mode Drop Readings in mV):

   - Multimeter in Diode Mode: Place RED probe on motherboard ground shield (GND); use BLACK probe to measure surrounding components:

     * VBAT Input Capacitor: ~350 mV to 480 mV (0.000V indicates blown amplifier or shorted decoupling capacitor).

     * 1.8V VDDIO Line: ~450 mV to 600 mV.

     * Boost Output Capacitor (VBOOST): ~400 mV to 550 mV.

     * Speaker Output Pins (SPK_P and SPK_N): Both lines must measure nearly identical diode drop values (~450 mV to 600 mV). If one side reads 0.000V or deviates by more than 80mV, the internal H-bridge is punctured.

     * I2S Digital Lines (BCLK, WCLK, DIN, DOUT): ~450 mV to 650 mV on each line.

     * I2C Communication Lines (SDA / SCL): ~500 mV to 700 mV.

2. Hot Testing (Live Voltage Under Active Audio Playback):

   - Power on the phone and play music or a continuous ringtone:

     * Check VBAT Pin: Must measure steady 3.8V to 4.2V DC.

     * Check 1.8V Logic: Must read steady 1.8V DC.

     * Check Boost Capacitor (VBOOST Rail):

       - Silent / Standby State: Reads battery voltage (~3.8V - 4.0V).

       - Loud Audio Active: Must dynamically elevate up to +7.0V to +10.0V DC!

     * Diagnostic Rule: If VBAT and 1.8V are verified and audio is playing, but VBOOST remains stuck at 3.8V and the speaker output delivers zero AC audio signal, the 894C IC is dead and must be replaced.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SECTION 4: SOLDERING, REBALLING & REWORK SPECIFICATIONS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. IC Desoldering Protocols:

   - Hot Air Station: Quick 861DW, Atten ST-862D, or Sugon 8620DX.

   - Temperature Setting: 320°C - 330°C.

   - Airflow Setting: 25% - 30% with a 3.0mm or 3.5mm straight nozzle.

   - Thermal Protection: Mask nearby processor/SoC, flash memory, and plastic battery/display connectors using double-layer Kapton tape and thick aluminum heat-shielding foil.

   - Removal: Apply a drop of tacky no-clean flux (Amtech NC-559-V2-TF). Heat the 48-bump WLCSP chip in small circular sweeps for 10-12 seconds until all micro-solder balls melt, then lift straight up with fine-point micro-tweezers.

2. Motherboard Pad Leveling & Prep:

   - Set micro-soldering iron to 330°C using an ultra-fine bevel or micro-knife tip.

   - Apply a small bead of Sn63/Pb37 leaded solder to combine with factory high-melt lead-free alloy on the motherboard pads.

   - Gently sweep fine 0.8mm desoldering copper braid over the 48-ball grid footprint until all pads are completely flat and level.

   - Thoroughly scrub the area with 99.9% pure Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and inspect under microscope for pad bridging or torn traces.

3. Reballing 894C (48-Bump WLCSP):

   - Place the chip into a dedicated Huawei Audio / universal small-BGA stencil (0.12mm thickness, 0.40mm ball pitch).

   - Scrape medium-temperature solder paste (Sn63/Pb37, 183°C melting point) across the stencil apertures with a flat razor blade, wiping away excess paste cleanly.

   - Reflow at 250°C - 260°C with 20% airflow until uniform, shiny solder spheres form across all 48 positions.

   - Allow natural cooling, wash with IPA, and inspect ball uniformity under microscope.

4. Alignment & Final Installation:

   - Apply an ultra-thin, translucent smear of tacky flux across the leveled motherboard footprint.

   - Align the Pin 1 orientation laser dot on top of the 894C chip precisely with the Pin 1 indicator dot on the PCB silkscreen.

   - Reflow at 320°C - 330°C at 25% airflow. As solder liquefies, surface tension will automatically pull the chip into exact alignment.

   - Perform an ultra-gentle micro-nudge with fine tweezers to verify elastic return movement.

   - Allow the PCB to cool naturally for 3 minutes, clean off flux residue with IPA, assemble the loudspeaker and motherboard, and power on to verify clear, loud ringtones and distortion-free audio playback.
