           SPREADTRUM / UNISOC SC2723E MAIN POWER IC HARDWARE DIAGNOSTIC GUIDE

====================================================================================================

1. FUNCTIONAL ARCHITECTURE & POWER CHANNELS:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Buck Switching Regulators:

  * Generates VDD_ARM / VDD_CORE (0.9V–1.1V) for the Spreadtrum CPU application processor.

  * Generates VDD_MEM / VDD_LPDDR (1.2V) for memory clock and data lines.

  * Generates VDD_INT (1.1V) for internal core logic gates.

- Linear LDO Regulators:

  * Generates multiple 1.8V, 2.8V, and 3.0V rails powering eMMC flash storage (VCC/VCCQ), analog sensors,

    audio block, and display panel bias.

- Power Sequence & Boot Management:

  * Detects Power Key ground pulse; controls the internal power-on reset (POR) and watchdog circuits.

2. BOARD-LEVEL FAULT SYMPTOMS (COMMON HARDWARE FAILURES):

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Completely Dead Phone (0.00A on DC Power Supply):

  * When pressing the power key, the phone draws 0.00A or a tiny frozen current (e.g. 0.02A–0.04A)

    due to missing VDD_CORE or missing 32.768kHz sleep clock oscillation.

- Primary VBAT Short Circuit:

  * Phone trips the DC power supply immediately with a high current draw (1.5A–3.0A+), with SC2723E

    heating up rapidly due to internal switching silicon puncture.

- Hang on Samsung Boot Logo (Bootloop):

  * Unstable or fluctuating Buck output voltages under initial Android OS boot load.

- No Charging / False Charging:

  * Fails to detect 5V VBUS input or fails to communicate battery charge level to the CPU.

3. MULTIMETER DIAGNOSTICS & TESTING PROCEDURE:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A. Cold Testing (Diode Mode - Battery & Charger Disconnected):

   1. Place RED probe on motherboard Ground (metal shield frame), probe with BLACK probe:

      - CPU Core Buck Coils (VDD_CORE): Normal diode reading is ~120mV to 220mV.

      - Memory & Logic Buck Coils: Normal diode reading is ~300mV to 450mV.

      - VREG_1.8V Always Rail: Normal reading is ~400mV to 550mV.

   2. Short Circuit Detection:

      - Any coil or bypass capacitor adjacent to SC2723E reading 0.000V with a continuous beep indicates

        a shorted rail. Remove SC2723E to confirm if the short clears from the motherboard.

B. Hot Testing (DC Power Supply Connected & Power Button Pressed):

   1. Connect 4.0V DC to the battery terminals:

      - Power Key pin must measure +3.8V to 4.0V DC in standby.

   2. Press Power Key and hold:

      - Measure across surrounding SMD Buck coils: Must detect +0.9V–1.0V (CPU), +1.2V (RAM), and +1.8V (System).

      - If VBAT enters SC2723E, power key drops to 0V when pressed, but ZERO voltages are generated on the coils,

        the SC2723E is dead and needs replacement.

4. MICRO-SOLDERING, REBALLING & REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Stencil Selection:

  * Use a dedicated Spreadtrum / UNISOC stencil (e.g., AMAOE SPD series or universal 0.4mm pitch BGA stencil).

- Chip Removal:

  * Protect adjacent plastic connectors with thermal polyimide (Kapton) tape.

  * Apply quality RMA / NC-559 tacky flux around the chip.

  * Hot air rework parameters: Temperature 340°C – 350°C, Airflow 25% – 30%.

  * Heat evenly in circular motions for 15 to 20 seconds until solder balls melt; lift straight up with tweezers.

- Motherboard Pad Cleaning:

  * Apply Sn63/Pb37 leaded solder to reduce pad melting point.

  * Clean pads completely flat and smooth using micro copper desoldering wick and flux at 280°C.

  * Clean thoroughly with 99% pure Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA); inspect pads under microscope.

- Chip Reballing:

  * Place SC2723E under the stencil apertures; apply medium-temperature 183°C solder paste smoothly.

  * Heat with hot air at 290°C – 300°C with low airflow (15%) until bright, uniform solder spheres form.

- Installation:

  * Spread a thin, transparent layer of flux across the PCB pads.

  * Align the Pin 1 orientation marker (dot) on SC2723E precisely with the board guide.

  * Reflow with hot air at 320°C – 330°C with 20% airflow. Watch the chip settle into place and self-align.

  * Allow 3 minutes of passive cooling before testing boot current on the DC power supply.
